Dr. Sompop Bencharit is an Associate Professor and the Director of Digital Dentistry Technologies in the Department of General Practice at the VCU School of Dentistry; and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the VCU School of Engineering. He received his DDS in 1994 and Diploma in Prosthodontics in 1996 from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Bencharit earned his Certificate and Master Degree in Prosthodontics in 1999, a PhD in Oral Biology in 2003, and a Certificate in Clinical Research in 2008 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has become a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists in 2009, and  a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2018. Dr. Bencharit has a full dental license in the State of Virginia. His clinical expertise include digital dentistry, dental implants, prosthodontics, esthetic dentistry, dental technology. His current research interests are guided implant surgery, 3D printing, and salivary proteomics. He has numerous publications (>60 peer reviewed articles) in prosthodontics, implant dentistry, salivary biomarkers, as well as protein structural biology. He is an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, and Scientific Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports.
